Derek Latham
Chair
Architect, town planner and landscape architect, Derek has undertaken projects throughout the UK with a contextual and conservation bias, including the restoration of the landscape at the Heights of Abraham, provision of visitor facilities and installation of the cable car.
Derek lives in his eco-house in Little Eaton, overlooking the valley, with his wife Pauline Latham OBE MP. Over the years he has ridden, cycled, kayaked and trekked long distances in Derbyshire and abroad, and is passionate about creating sustainable leisure access to the Derwent Valley in all modes.
Whilst respecting the valley’s heritage, Pauline and Derek have witnessed a mini renaissance of art and culture in the valley recently and seek to encourage its growth, wider understanding and access.
John Hambley
Cycleway Chair
John is a retired GP and has been a keen cyclist for many years. He recognises the health benefits of cycling, particularly in safe and beautiful environments and sees this as one of the key benefits of the Derwent Valley Cycleway.
John chairs the Cycleway Working Group meetings and coordinates the development of the Duffield to Milford section.
David Moreton
Treasurer & Heritage Way Chair
An organic chemist by training, David worked for 33 years after his PhD in the speciality chemicals industry, the latter 20 years as manager of the organic synthesis department at Lubrizol Ltd in Hazelwood.
David is a keen walker and cyclist. Since retirement in 2019, he has taken on numerous voluntary roles in Milford and Belper, including 2 treasurer roles. In 2022, he became Ranger Co-ordinator for the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (DVHW) and in 2023 the Chair of the DVHW. In 2024 he became the Treasurer of the Derwent Valley Trust and a Trustee.
